Digital radiography is an advanced diagnostic tool used to detect and treat potential problems faster and more effectively. Unlike film X-rays, digital X-rays use small sensors to capture images of your teeth and supporting structures. This makes the imaging process faster and much more comfortable. It also makes it safer, as radiation exposure is significantly reduced and no chemicals are used in developing the film. Instead, the images are instantly projected onto a nearby monitor where our dentists can view them.
Digital X-rays are commonly used to diagnose:
- Decay between the teeth
- Improper tooth root positioning
- Cysts and abscesses
- Fractures in the teeth or in existing fillings
- Infection in the tooth nerves
- Bone loss
- Developmental abnormalities
X-rays are also used in planning treatments, including oral surgery, root canal therapy and implant placement.
